Venue

The workshops and tutorials of the conference (September 19 and 20) will take part in the University of Macedonia building. The main conference (September 21 to 23) will take place in Hotel Macedonia Palace. If you have some free time, you might want to spend it reading about Thessaloniki.

University of Macedonia building

All amphitheaters are located in the first floor of University of Macedonia. A map of the first floor can be found here (note the difference between amphitheaters and simple halls; amphitheaters are close to the main axis of the building, ranging from 4 to 13, and have theater style setup; halls are at the sides of the building, they are flat and range from 1 to 10).

Travel Details

Thessaloniki is reachable through its International Airport (code: SKG). The are direct flights from many European Airports. From outside Europe you might have one stop in some European airport (including Athens). Lufthansa is usually a good option for passengers from outside Europe.

The airport is about 10 Kms away from the city's center (see the map below). The best way to go to the city is by getting a taxi. The cost is about 15 euros and the journey lasts approx. 15 to 20 mins (depending on the traffic). There are a lot of taxis in front of the terminal.

You can also get the local bus (number 78 or number 78N during the night). It starts every 30 to 45 mins (depending on the time of the day) in front of the airport and stops next to the main city's hotels. The duration of the journey is 20 to 30 mins (depending on the traffic). For more information about the buses click here.

Hotels

The following hotels offer special prices for ICAPS-09 participants. The participants have to book/pay their rooms directly with each hotel, by mentioning ICAPS-09 in order to receive special prices. The following map positions the hotels within the city's center.

Hotel Macedonia Palace (*****)

This is the "headquarters" hotel of the conference and the place where the main conference will take place. The distance between this hotel and University of Macedonia (where the workshops and tutorials will take place) is about 1,2 Kms. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

A number of at least 60 rooms has been reserved for ICAPS-09 participants until July 31st, 2009. After this date, availability is not guaranteed. Participants are encouraged to book their rooms as soon as possible, in order to avoid availability problems. Please do not use the hotel's online reservation system but contact them directly through phone (+30 2310 897 197), fax (+30 2310 897 211) or e-mail (mkp@classicalhotels.com), mention ICAPS09 and ask for the special prices. Hotel Metropolitan (****)

This hotel is located near the city's waterfront, very close to Hotel Macedonia Palace (0,8 Kms walking in the city's waterfront), whereas a combination of bus and some walking is recommended for University of Macedonia (buses are very frequent in this area). The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

The above prices include all taxes. They also include free WiFi internet within the rooms. Hotel Queen Olga (***)

This hotel is located near the city's waterfront, very close to Hotel Macedonia Palace (0,7 Kms walking in the city's waterfront), whereas a combination of bus and some walking is recommended for University of Macedonia (buses are very frequent in this area). The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

Single room with breakfast	60 euros/day
Double room with breakfast	80 euros/day

The above prices include all taxes. They also include free ADSL internet within the rooms (please check with the hotel). To book you have to send a fax (+30 2310 868 581) or an e-mail (reservations@queenolga.gr) to the hotel, or give them a call at +30 2310 824 621. Do not forget to mention ICAPS-09. You have to give also your credit card details.

Important: In the hotel's online booking system you can find rooms with lower rates (41 euros per night). We suggest you to AVOID THEM: they are interior and quite small. Furthermore, all the prices obtained from the online reservation system are without breakfast. Please, DO NOT USE the email info@queenolga.gr too, it is handled by a different department of the hotel that is not fully aware of our special prices.

Hotel ABC (***)

This hotel is in walking distance from University of Macedonia (0,9 Kms) and Hotel Macedonia Palace (1,3 Kms). You can also use a bus for both directions. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

Hotel Electra Palace (*****)

This luxurious hotel is located in the most central square of the city, i.e. square of Aristotle. The walking distance to the venue hotel is 2,1 Kms and to University of Macedonia 2,2 Kms. There is very good bus connection from and to the hotel. If you prefer walking, there is a very nice walk along the city's waterfront. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

This hotel is located in the very down-town of the city, in an area full of restaurants and bars. The walking distance to the venue hotel is 2,3 Kms and to University of Macedonia 2,2 Kms. There is very good bus connection from and to the hotel. If you prefer walking, there is a very nice walk along the city's waterfront. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants::

Hotel Capsis Bristol (*****)

This hotel is located in the very down-town of the city, in the area "Ladadika" which is full of restaurants and bars. The walking distance to the venue hotel is 2,4 Kms and to University of Macedonia 2,3 Kms. There is very good bus connection from and to the hotel. If you prefer walking, there is a very nice walk along the city's waterfront. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

Hotel Capsis (****)

This hotel is located in the north-west area of the city. The walking distance to the venue hotel is 3,4 Kms and to University of Macedonia 3,0 Kms. There is bus connection from and to the hotel, however the bus has to go through the city center, so depending on the traffic the duration of the journey varies. Forget walking! The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

Hotel Egnatia (***)

This hotel is the center of the city. The walking distance is 3,3 Kms to the venue hotel and 2,7 Kms to University of Macedonia. There is bus connection from and to the hotel, however some walking to the venue hotel might be necessary. Walking only is not recommended. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:

Tourist Hotel (**)

This hotel is located in the very downtown. The walking distance is 2,2 Kms to the venue hotel and 2,1 Kms to University of Macedonia. There is very good bus connection from and to the hotel. If you prefer walking, there is a very nice walk along the city's waterfront. The following prices have been offered for ICAPS-09 participants:
